Organisers plan bigger, better Te Maeva Nui
On Wednesday evening at the Crown Beach Resort & Spa, Minister for Cultural Development, Hon Teariki Heather launched the Te Maeva Nui Partnership programme before invited guests.
The purpose of the launch which included cocktails, was for the Minister to announce the plans for this year’s events and the rewards and benefits of partnering with the Ministry in 2012 (26 July – 6 August) and up to 2015 when the country will celebrate the 50th anniversary of self government.
Also attending were Prime Minister Hon Henry Puna, Ministers Hon Teina Bishop and Hon Mark Brown, Leader of the Opposition Hon Wilkie Rasmussen, Sonny Williams-Secretary for Culture, Tourism CEO-Carmel Beattie, prominent business leaders and other guests.
In his speech the PM urged business representatives to “open their hearts and cheque books.”
The aim is to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.
Different levels of sponsorship are planned in divisions representing the traditional leaders, Arikis, Mataiapos and Rangatiras, in lots rising from $500 to $30,000.
The partnership benefits include;
-nationwide broadcasting inclusions,
-online and social media profiles,
-souvenir programme,
-sponsorship launches, displays, sales booths,
-media packages,
-wrap up event,
-parking, VIP and complimentary seating, lounge passes, and
-inhouse promos and banners.
The proposed events include;
(1)Float parade
The celebrations will open with a float parade from Avarua to Punanga Nui Market. Floats to be designed to express the theme: “Te Reo Tupuna o took matakeinga.”
(2)International night
To be staged at Te Aroa Nui Hall in Puaikura.
(3)Choir competition and Imene Tuki
To be held over the weekend.
(4)Island Days
To be staged during the week.
(5) Cultural Performances
To feature original compositions, dances and costumes. Four categories; Ura Pau, Kapa Rima, Ute and Pe’e.
(6)Tanga Kaara
Awards for performance
There will be no grand prize. Each team has the chance to be rewarded for performance in seven areas;
-float parade, choir, Imene Tuki, Ura Pau, Kapa Rima, Ute, Pe’e.
One late addition is that there will also be a prize for the best costume.
The awards will be staggered as follows;
1.85-100% achievement $1,000
2.70-84% achievement $ 750
3.50-69% achievement $ 500
Prize giving and closing ceremony
The PM will conduct the official closing. Prizes will be awarded on the last day.-Charles Pitt
