What does an Arabian Gulf state have in common with Cook Islands? How about the Cook Islands dancing culture capturing the hearts of both Dubai people and visitors.
In amongst the oil sheiks and diverse culture of modern Dubai life, a group of talented Cook Island dancers, are showcasing the unique Cook Islands style.
Ruth Forsythe, former Miss Cook Islands, New Zealand, has literally danced her way around the world, performing in countries as different as Spain and Japan.
One of the highlights was a one-year contract in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates dancing for Temana - The magic of Polynesia. This was at the JW Marriott Metropolitan Palace.
Dubai was an amazing experience, she said, and something she will never forget.
She believes we are very fortunate being raised in the islands as free-spirited and fun loving way and that gives us the quality to adapt to different ways of life very easily.
After being away from the Cook Islands for most of her life, the dream to return home to her family in Mangaia, Mauke and Rarotonga came to fruition.
She left other Cook Island team members in Dubai continuing on their own career paths of dancing and promoting the Cook Islands.
Now she has another passion in life. This is to start her own dance group, teaching them some of the techniques of island dancing she has learnt in her life.
