Clash at the Chamber
By Charles Pitt, Political Editor
Chamber of Commerce Vice President James Beer has clashed with Chamber President Tersa Manarangi-Trott over the issue of privatisation of Government assets and other matters. As a result, a bitter and angry Beer has walked away from the Executive.
Last week, before traveling overseas on business, Beer, of Jimco, informed the Times of his decision to resign from the Executive of the Chamber of Commerce.
Beer said he had been concerned with the new commercial direction the Chamber was taking in pushing for government assets to be privatised. He opposed such a move. He also referred to concerns about the President, Teresa Manarangi-Trott.
However, Beer declined to elaborate saying he was in a hurry to leave for overseas and would issue a statement upon his return.
When approached by CITV News last week for a comment on the Beer resignation, Trott indicated she did not know what Beer’s concerns were. Until she learnt of these, she declined to make comment.
However, the November newsletter from the Chamber released last week refers to a complaint by Beer against the President Trott. It indicates the complaint was investigated and found to be unsubstantiated. No specific details are given.
