Boxing boss calls urgent meeting

National amateur boxing president Adi Narayan has recommended to executives that a special meeting discuss selection criteria and fundraising for the 2007 South Pacific Games in Samoa.
The Cook Islands Amateur Boxing Association (CIABA) executives are disappointed at the lack of interest from the boxers and their clubs with regards to preparation and selection.
It was noted that boxers and the clubs are not showing any initiatives, and there is a total lack of effort towards fundraising.
Narayan says it has been the practice in the past for the boxers to rely solely on the association to provide financial assistance for overseas tours.
He told the Times that this is about to change, and it will be discussed at the special meeting Tuesday 12th December at 4.30pm at the CISNOC Office.
AGENDA
Also on the agenda is a programme for this month.
Narayan is confident that there will be a contest during this month to gauge the fitness of some of the boxers who were identified as prospects at the “Battle of the Clubs” two months ago.
Narayan told the Times that the association is close to finalising a leasing arrangement for its headquarters and central training facilities in downtown Avarua.
Negotiations with the landlords of the premises are being handled by Vice-President Paul Mangakahia.
On Tuesday 12th, it is also planned to host a farewell function for Dr. Henry Daiwo, who has been the association’s official ringside physician for several years.
Dr. Daiwo is leaving Cook Islands to return home to Solomon Islands.
Narayan is asking all the boxers and club officials to attend this important general meeting.
A decision is likely to be made to confirm the number of athletes and officials for the 2007 Pacific Games.
