Research job strengthens new framework

Research Cook Islands took another major step forward this week, adding a further building block in the establishment of a national regulatory framework.
The Project Team engaged in developing the framework undertook job interviews to identify a Research Director, who will lead a proposed new unit under the Prime Minister’s Office.
The team, facilitated by Ngamau Wichman-Tou, is expected to settle the position within two weeks. The new Research Director is earmarked to begin duties around mid-January.
Wichman-Tou, the Manager of Pacific Health Research of the Health Research Council of New Zealand (RC), has been back in Rarotonga with Elizabeth Bohm. Bohm is Legal and Policy Advisor with the Health Research Council.
The pair is working closely with the local team members in tackling a range of aspects, including drafting the legal framework that will help regulate all research in the country. A number of draft proposals are being readied for eventual consideration by Cabinet.
The job interviews for director concluded on Friday with a second stage to come, next week.
