QR to present Papa Ben Samuel with BEM in Penryhn

The Queens Representative, Sir Frederick Goodwin will travel to Penryhn next week to present Papa Ben Samuels with his Queens Honors award. According to, Harry Ivaiti, of the Head of States office, the request to have the Queens Representative make the travel to the Northern group was made by Penryhn Member of Parliament and Minister of Crown Wilkie Rasmussen, as Papa Ben is believed to be in his 80’s, frail and unable to travel to Rarotonga. The CI Times understands that Papa Ben is being awarded with a BEM (British Empire Medal) in recognition for his service in the Penryhn community and throughout the Cook Islands. The Queens Representative will return to Rarotonga next Saturday.  Papa Ben is the last of the Queens Honors recipients to be awarded with his medal as the other awardees were presented with theirs on Queens Birthday last month. - Mona Vaevae
