Imported Pigs for upgrading of breeding

Tupou Faireka and two of the NZ bred pigs.

The Ministry of Agriculture has imported 10 live pigs from Christchurch New Zealand to upgrade pig farming in the Cook Islands.
The pigs arrived on Saturday morning on board the Southern Express.
They have been shared out between each Vaka. They will care for the pigs during their breeding season.
In Te Au O Tonga, Doctor Uka and Tupapa MP Tupou Faireka has been given allocated pigs. Faireka has one female sour and one male boar land raised. They are very healthy.
The pigs are only five months old and Faireka plans to start breeding from them in 6 months time when they are old enough. Faireka said if anyone in the village would like a piglet then he will donate one for free.
In the other Vaka’s the imported pigs are with Tom Masters and Eddie Matenga, in Puaikura, and Walter Marearai and Charlie Brothers in Takitumu.
