Matenga gets islands media honour


Jeane Matenga . named to represent
the region's television industry

A Cook Islander has been honoured with appointment to a top regional news media position.
Pitt Media Group chief executive Jeane Matenga was selected the new head of the television industry group of the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA).
She will represent television stations from throughout the region on the PINA executive board. She will also spearhead television activities – such as training and programme exchange - within PINA.
The Pitt Media Group is the country’s biggest employer of media industry workers.
It operates Cook Islands Television, Radio Cook Islands, the Cook Islands Herald and Cook Islands Times, and the internationally-popular ciherald.co.ck website.
Ms Matenga also operates Mana Productions, which specialises in video and TV production.
Fiji-based PINA is the main professional body of the region’s news media.
Its members are radio and TV stations, newspapers and magazines, national news media associations, news web sites and journalism schools.
They come from 22 countries and territories across the region.
PINA also operates the Suva-based regional news service Pacnews.
PINA’s main objectives include:
- promoting, protecting and developing freedom of information and expression;
- promoting and developing professional standards through training and education;
- promoting and developing professional cooperation within the region’s news media.
Ms Matenga succeeds former Fiji Television Limited executive Richard Broadbridge as head of PINA’s TV industry group.
She is the second Cook Islander to hold such a senior role in PINA.
Pitt Media Group founder and board chairperson George Pitt is a former executive board member of the association.
