Minister for Sport honours Sam Pera Jnr

Sam Pera Junior and his family were dined with breakfast at the Hon Aunty Ngamau Munokoa's Office in Nikao after returning home with seven medals from his current competition.
Sam Pera Snr who has been involved in the sport of weightlifting for 16 years, says that he has known 6 Ministers of Sport in that time and of them all, the current Minister Aunty Mau, is the best.
Pera Snr mentioned this in his speech at a reception on Friday morning at the office of the Minister for Sport where she hosted the members of the Pera family in honour of Sam Jnr’s achievement in winning seven medals for the Cook Islands at the recent weightlifting event in Samoa and in doing so, setting a new Commonwealth record for U18s. Not to be forgotten was Sam Jnr’s younger brother 13 year old Sirla who won Bronze in his division in Samoa.
The Pera family are from Atupa which is in the Minister’s electorate.
Sam Pera Snr said Aunty Mau was the only Minister for Sport to have invited him and his family to such a special reception. He thanked her for that recognition. Tony Hole was also present. The Minister put on morning tea and was all praise for both boys’ efforts and encouraged them to “go on” with it for the Cook Islands.
Sam Jnr is the only Cook Islander who currently holds several Commonwealth records. After setting his most recent record in Samoa, CISNOC are yet to this writer’s knowledge, to stage any sort of function in honour of Sam Jnr’s achievement.
Sam Jnr returns to the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in Samoa next Wednesday to train for the upcoming World Championships being held in Costa Rica in November.
We wish him the best.
