Research Association to hold second Conference
The Cook Islands Research Association will hold their second conference during our Constitution Week celebrations next week. Leading lights in the Association are Prof Ron Crocombe and Marjorie Crocombe and President, Angie Tuara who are actively promoting the aims of the Research Association.
In keeping with all things cultural during Maeva Nui, the theme is about Marae in the Cook Islands and indeed throughout the Pacific and all the public are cordially invited to come along and hear the lectures.
Wednesday morning is opening day with registration from 10am to 11am at the USP Centre in Takamoa followed by an opening ceremony at 11am with the Minister of Culture, Hon Wilke Rasmussen.
The Secretary, Makiuti Tongia will then deliver the keynote address on ‘The Past, Present and Future of Marae in the Cook islands’. During lunch, digital images of Cook Islands artifacts will be shown at the USP.
The afternoon session will feature a panel of speakers including Papa Tangaroa Kainuku on the marae in Rarotonga and then individual presentations on marae in Rapanui and Tahiti Nui.
At 4pm, there will be a Kava ceremony and social gathering held in the Peace Garden in the grounds of the Cook Islands Library and Museum opposite the USP.
