Team Cook Islands to Beijing Olympics
CISNOC held an official send off for Team Cook Islands to the Beijing Olympics 2008 on Wednesday lunchtime.
When we arrived at the ceremony, the CISNOC officials led by CEO, Bryan Wyllie were ready with their ei maire to drape over the special guests to the event who included
Makea Karika Margaret Ariki of Te Au o Tonga, DPM and Finance Minister, Sir Terepai Maoate and the NZ High Commissioner Brian Donnelly and Henry Puna and his wife, Akaiti.
Once inside, we discovered the tere party from Mauke community were already in the house singing away as they waited for the official announcement as to who would be in Team Cook Islands for the Beijing Olympics.
Government officials are: Sir Frederick and Lady Goodwin, CEO for the QR, Harry Ivaiti, Minister of Sports, Ngamau Munokoa and husband, Ngarii Munokoa and Secretary for the Minister of Sports, Arthur Taripo.
CISNOC officials are Tiki Matapo and his wife, Mii, Secretary General, Rose.line Blake and her guest, Tereau Francis, Chef de Mission, Paul Allsworth and his wife Tania.
Team members are Terepaii Tapoki (women’s discus), Gordon Heather (men’s 100m sprint), Sam Pera Jnr (weightlifting) and Petero Okotai (swimming, 100m breaststroke men’s).
Team officials are Siniva Marsters (team manager athletics). Patrick Heller (team coach athelestics), Ray Preston (team manager swimming), and Sam Pera Snr (team manager/coach weightlifting).
