Teava Iro out of election

Teava Iro

One of the Independent candidates for Titikaveka, businessman Teava Iro withdrew his nomination as candidate late Friday afternoon, handing his notice to Chief Electoral Officer Terry Hagan.
According to a spokeperson, Iro entered the race in order to convey his vision that in future Titikaveka be represented by the best candidate not one picked along party lines. That opportunity to present his vision came at the recent public meeting and having articulated that vision he felt his purpose for entering the race had been achieved and it was timely to step down.
The meeting had been called by the Aronga Mana and chaired by the local council. All candidates for the Titikaveka seat attended except Tiki Matapo of the CIP who declined to attend.
It was a positive meeting, well attended, where all candidates spoke as one about the development and governance of the village.
This according to Iro was a step in the direction of the vision he had envisaged and hopes will become a practice within two elections time.
Iro departs on Sunday for Japan on business reasons returning on the night of the elections.
