CIP jubilant and all fired up
“ Jubilant and all fired up,” was the response from the President of the Cook Islands Party Rau Nga to the recent rallies held in Puaikura and Takitumu this week.” There is definitely a changing wind in the air as we see over to full attendances and a positive mood by our candidates and supporters during these rallies. “
“ Since our conference, the feelings of unity and support has been overwhelming throughout our campaign. I will be absolutely surprised if this new team did not win outright on the 26th “ said Nga. “ Everywhere within our Punas, the mapu, the elderly and even our children have joined in a mood of determination and celebration. I have not seen this spirit of togetherness for a long time and I must say, I am proud of this party and our supporters for showing this spirit during campaign time.”
The support given to Vaine Wichman on Wednesday during her rally was excellent. Her fellow colleagues spoke of her humility and compassion and the work she does behind the scenes within the community that is unheard of and not seen by the general public. To a rousing applause from the audience, George Pitt from Vaivaitau, flew from Aitutaki to lend his support to his colleague. He emphasized the importance of this team getting into government to stop, once and for all, the corruption that is rife within the DEMO party from the top to the bottom.
In Takitumu, amidst several power cuts, the mood was jubilant as supporters showed their full support for the 3 candidates standing. Youth, wisdom and experience were key themes during the discussions highlighted by stories of copycats, bribery, corruption and intimidation from the DEMO camp. In response to a jubilant crowd, the former Leader, Sir Geoffrey Henry and as eloquent a speaker as ever, told of the wonderful support given the 3 CIP candidates in Aitutaki earlier this week. “ I have not seen this sort of support from within the Party since 1994. Our people are not silly. They know a grave injustice was done to the CIP on the 24 July when they were denied the democratic right to govern this country. We will correct this on the 26th. Furthermore, the DEMOs are reported to be circulating a list of achievements during the last 12 months,” said Sir Geoffrey.
“ When I saw that list, I could not believe the misleading statements by the DEMOs. To stoop to such low depths and try to claim the credit for things they did not do, is clearly a sign of desperation but more importantly, a sign that they have lost the plot and will resort to all sorts of dirty tactics to win. I have only one message for you and that is “ Pu octopus ma.”
