PM proposes business roundtable

The Prime Minister held a return luncheon with the
Chamber of Commerce Executives this week, hosting
President Teresa Manarangi-Trott and members,
Catherine Newman, Brian Baudinet, and Kevin Rowell.
Joining Jim Marurai at the Crown Beach Resort
gathering above were Manager Sonny Williams and wife Gina.

The Prime Minister has floated the idea of establishing an informal dialogue with the private sector with the establishment of a monthly Business Roundtable.
Jim Marurai engaged the Chamber of Commerce in talks this week over a lunch meeting in which the idea was put to Executive Members. The lunch was a return engagement to fulfill a promise that the Prime Minister had made a month ago.
The event turned out to be very fruitful in terms of developing a closer working relationship with the business community.
Chamber President Teresa Manarangi-Trott welcomed the chance to build on the private sector agenda, which covered issues such as immigration policy, road safety, political reform, shipping, and small business development.
Marurai says he wants to institute an informal way of advancing business issues and the roundtable concept was an ideal way to meet with the sector in face-to-face discussions.
The Business Roundtable will provide the Chamber with a launch pad upon which to carry issues forward.
The Prime Minister wants the idea to work so that the business community remains engaged with high level policy development and feels embraced by Government’s administrative agenda.
During Friday’s luncheon, the exchange was positive and encouraging. The dialogue now has a good foundation whereby talks can flow freely and with frankness on wide-ranging issues affecting the private sector, and Government.
