Catholics first for popular Nukutere

NUKUTERE COLLEGE at Tutakimoa is giving preference to baptised Catholics, principal Donna Nahu confirms.
It comes with the Catholic college’s new policy on enrolments, caused by the school’s popularity with parents and difficulty fitting in everyone who wants to attend.
A notice Nahu sent out says: “Preference will be given to baptised Catholics although this does not necessarily mean that they will be accepted on that merit alone.”
Nukutere College was established in 1975 by the Bishop and Catholic Community of the Cook Islands.
The secondary school’s mission statement says: “Nukutere College provides a stimulating educational environment reflecting Catholic faith and gospel values.
“This environment enables and encourages students to achieve their individual potential in all aspects of their spiritual, cultural, academic and social development.”
POLICY
The notice says the new policy for enrolments came into effect on Friday, 6 October.
The closing date for these enrolments is 10 November 2006.
It urges: “All existing parents and new parents or caregivers who intend on enrolling their children for the 2007 year, now is the time to do so.
“Get in early while we still have places.
“No late applications for 2007 enrolments will be accepted after this date unless in extreme situations and only at the discretion of the principal.”
Nukutere is a co-educational school offering education from Year 7 (Form 1) to Year 11 (Form 5).
