Drum maker in demand

Leading maker of traditional drum sets, George Ngapare, of O’Oa, has just completed a set of drums for the Porirua Cook Islands Catholic Youth Group in New Zealand.
The set consists of three large pates, one small pate, one bongo drum and one large base drum as well as the sticks.
This set will be on its way to Porirua, near Wellington, on Friday.
Last week, Ngapare dispatched a drum set to Massey High School in Auckland. Soon he will start work on a set for Tereora College.
Ngapare is also awaiting confirmation from Samoa where a Cook Islander has made enquiries about him making a set of drums.
Last year Ngapare made several drum sets for Cook Islands cultural groups in New Zealand schools.
