Rangi Makeakea Update
Dear Editor - I would like to say thank you to all the family members that attended the meeting on the 14th Oct 2006 at the Manihiki Hall.
As advised by Pastor Ngarima George about the protocol that needed to be followed regarding the Makea title, we have now spoken to Minister Tom Marsters (who had been elected to be the spokesperson to sort out this Makea title) requesting a meeting with both Tepatuakino families and Putua Ariki’s families to sort out this title before July 2007 celebrations.
Minister Tom Marsters has agreed to call a meeting by January or February 07 next year due to the Christmas festival coming up soon. This will be advertised in the Cook Islands Herald and the Cook Islands News.
I would also like to make one thing clear about our half brother Eric Browne who had made an application for the Makea title some years ago. Eric was claiming the title on his mother’s line (Tuvaine Elizabeth Tamarua) who was the first wife of Willie Browne and she was from the Mere line on Tepatuakino’s side.
We are claiming the title on our father Willie Browne, who had been accepted in the Rarotonga Native court in 1957 as the biological ancestor to Rangi Makeakea and his sons Putua Ariki, Tekapatoa and daughter Piavai.
Also I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the Cook Islands Herald and the Cook Islands News for printing our letters and news in their papers. May we always have God & Jesus and the Holy Spirit in our lives to help and guide us in our daily lives?
- Yolande Browne
