Urgent! Help needed to keep CINVAS open
By Shona Pitt

The Cook Islands National Visual Arts, CINVAS, shop in town desperately needs more local artists to assist and support its daily operations.
President Maria File has resigned from the post due to personal commitments, leaving a huge work effort to fill.
File, along with local artist Ani Exham–Dun, has been the driving force behind the successful comeback of the association.
The idea of establishing the shop was so that local artists would have an outlet for their work. A percentage is charged on the sale of the locally-made products and this goes towards the expenses of the shop.
CINVAS is a voluntary organisation and is now struggling to keep the premises going due to a lack of people to help with the daily running of the shop.
At the moment local tattoo artist Stormy subleases space at the premises and contributes towards the weekly rent.
IDEAL
Dun said it would be ideal to have another local working artist sublease the gallery section. As long as space was made available for members to display and sell their work.
“That would take away the worry of meeting the remaining rent,” Dun said.
She said she realises that everyone is busy doing his or her own thing. However, it would be a shame to see the place close down.
She said: “We are going to try as hard as we can to ensure that the premises stay open, however we need the support of our members and community to keep the outlet open.”
Dun said anyone who can contribute or assist in any way should contact her at the CINVS premises behind Bergman’s shop in town, next door to the Banana Court.
