Narayan to go to Taipei meeting

Cook Islands Amateur Boxing Association president Adi Narayan is to attend a meeting of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) in Taipei, Taiwan, on 7 February.
At this a new committee, the Reforming Committee, is to be established.
Narayan said he is to be given the opportunity on 11 February to present his personal views to the Reforming Committee.
Narayan is also to meet with new AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu and auditors Price Waterhouse on 5 February to complete the four-yearly accounts.
Narayan recently had the honour of being appointed chairman of IABA’s Finance Commission. The announcement was confirmed on 12 January by President Wu.
Earlier, at the association’s congress in the Dominican Republic, Narayan raised concerns over IABA finances. This included over funding not being given to smaller Oceania countries such as the Cook Islands
Pupuke Robati Jnr named
At the Executive Board meeting of the Cook Islands Amateur Boxing Association held on Thursday, Pupuke Robati Jnr was appointed Assistant National Coach. He is to assist National Coach Tevita Vakalalabure and Assistant National Coach Paul Mangakahia.
February for next contest
The Cook Islands Amateur Boxing Association has named Tuesday 13 February as the day for the next boxing contest. The event will most likely be staged at the Banana Court. However, this will be confirmed later.
Training facility opens Tuesday
Next Tuesday evening, the Cook Islands Amateur Boxing Association’s new training facility will open for business.
The new gym is located on the first floor above the Furniture Factory (old Scott and Watson factory) behind Kenwall Gallery.
The plan is to have all training centralised here under the eyes of the national coaching team. There is ample space, with toilets and a kitchenette.
Boxing equipment and a ring will be set up. The facility will be open each evening for training.
At present boxers are training in mainly substandard facilities with little equipment and without proper coaching. The new gym will represent a big leap forward in training for boxers.
