From Holland to Amuri: Thank you
Being far away from home during the holiday-season, without your family, is kind of hard. This year my friend and me were celebrating Christmas on the Cook Islands.
We stayed in Amuri Guesthouse on Aitutaki. We were the only two guests in the hostel, which gave us the feeling of “living” with a guest family.
Maraiti and Ngatuaine Tom are two wonderful people, who were like “mum and dad” to us. Their hospitality is something unique. On Christmas day we were invited to have dinner together with them.
The locally prepared food from a “hangi” was delicious! On Boxing Day we watched all the local people dancing. It was amazing to see how good everybody can dance, and how much fun everybody had. Compared to the cold Christmas we normally celebrate at home, it was a great experience to be out in the sunshine.
The “Cookies” are one of the most friendly people we met during our travels so far. Especially the people on Aitutaki were really nice.
With this little email we would like to thank everybody for making this Christmas an unforgettable experience.
Special thanks to Ngatuaine and Maraiti Tom who were excellent hosts. We will recommend your clean and friendly place to all travellers planning to go to Aitutaki!:-)
With kind regards,
- Claudia and Imke from Holland
