Takitumu Trip All Go!
The group will be led by Pa Ariki and will consist of members of her Rangatiras as well as several Taungas representing culture, traditional arts and crafts, business, Vaka Voyaging, political and economic development. The delegation also includes a number of prominent Cook Islands musicians such as Andre Tapena, Curly George, Jake Numanga, Rangi Henry and Tara Kauvai. This pool of Cook Islands talent will do us proud in terms of promoting Takitumu and the Cook Islands for that matter quoted the source.
This is an absolute opportunity to showcase our culture and the vibrancy of our people from Takitumu because of our historical and ancestral ties. This celebration also provides opportunities to participate in various Forums to exchange viewpoints on issues such as business investments, partnerships, economic development, performing and cultural arts and to look at ways of strengthening relationships within Maoridom and how this relationship can be extended to benefit their neighbors in the Pacific including the Cook Islands.
Unfortunately, time and limited funds do not permit a full cultural dance group to accompany the delegation however a cultural dance team from either Auckland or Wellington will be invited to perform on the group’s behalf.
It is understood Government will be represented by the Prime Minister Jim Marurai, the Deputy Prime Minister Sir Terepai Maoate and the Hon Cassie Eggleton MP.
It is expected that the delegation will depart for the Festival on 9 November and will return on 23 November. The delegation is understood to also include several media personnel and advisers.
