Demos meet to air concerns
The Times has been informed that members of the Democratic Party Executive and Caucus met twice in the past week to air concerns about the economy and performance of government.
Each member present had the opportunity to air their views and these covered a wide range of issues from lack of progress with infrastructure projects, price increases, cost of living in the outer islands and the upcoming merger of OMIA and Works into a new super ministry for Infrastructure. The concern with the new ministry is the perception that the outer islands no longer have a direct voice in government.
Prime Minister Hon Jim Marurai is reported as taking note of the views and concerns expressed.
There were no motions tabled for further action.
Members absent were Hon John Tangi, Sir Terepai Maoate and Hon Ngamau Munokoa.
The Times understands there may be a further meeting regarding the concerns raised.
