National wins New Zealand General Election
Preliminary results has the National Party winning the New Zealand General Election. (See table). Although National has not, on the results so far, gained a clear majority of 62 seats, it will form the next government with support from the Act Party, United Future and possibly the Maori Party.
A major casualty was Winston Peters who failed to win Tauranga and his NZ First Party which failed to gain 5% of the vote.
The Mangere seat was won by Labour’s Sio with NZ Pacific Party’s Taito Phillip Field well behind.
The counting of special votes is still to be completed.
