Malaysia High Commissioner Farewell Visit
His Excellency, Dato Sopian Ahmad, High Commissioner for Malaysia to New Zealand and the Cook Islands will visit Rarotonga from 25-27 November to pay farewell calls on the Queen’s Representative and the Prime Minister. The High Commissioner will be accompanied by Mr Dzulkefly Mustapha, 2nd Secretary with the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington.
The High Commissioner completes his tour of duty at the end of this year and this is his second visit to the Cook Islands.
Malaysia was one of the first countries the Cook Islands formalised relations with in 1992. Since 1992, numerous Cook Islanders have participated in training courses under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP). Areas of study have included planning and management, computer, television and broadcasting and environmental studies.
